Tefl reviews - Pronunciation And Phonology/phonetic Alphabet Issues - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT

There are two issues that need to be stressed when working with the international phonemic alphabet. First is the fact that we are no longer concerned with how a word is traditionally spelled. Additionally we need to stress that we are only concerned with the sounds needed to correctly produce a word. So rather than numerous spellings, which can often be pronounced in different ways, we have one symbol representing one sound. Once we can isolate a sound, rather than juggling various spellings, we can work with our students on how to say that sound. Doing that successfully is related to manner and place of articulation, which will be covered shortly. To get a better understanding of the phonemic alphabet, let's take a look at our chart. In the bottom half of our chart we have our...  [Read more]

Tips for writing a TEFL/TESOL Resume/ Curriculum Vitae ▷ Infographic - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT

When writing a TEFL/TESOL CV it is important to make sure that the information you provide is relevant to being an English teacher. There is no need to go into detail about past jobs unless they involved teaching or training. The first things an employer looks for in an applicant are that they have the right qualifications and whether they have any teaching experience. Therefore you should make these easily visible on the first page of your CV. When it comes to listing your employment history you should only go into detail about past employment if you were involved in teaching or training, otherwise you can just list the job title, dates and company name. Correct spelling and grammar is important in any CV but it’s even more important when applying for a job as an English teacher....  [Read more]

Some of the differences between American English and British English ▷ Infographic - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT

British and American English differs in several ways that encompass vocabulary, grammarand spelling, and a student is not wrong if they use either version. Teachers should teach the English that they themselves speak but also have an awareness of the differences between the two. If a teacher is required to teach a course book that is in a version of English different to their own, then they should teach the English used in the book. Some of the differences in vocabulary covered in this graphic are fairly well known such as ‘pavement’ (GB) and ‘sidewalk’ (US), others not so much as in the case of ‘fortnight’ (GB) and ‘two weeks’ (US). While the differences between the two don’t generally matter, a teacher may prefer to teach one version...  [Read more]

Top Reasons Why Rules of Pronunciation are Extremely Important for Teachers - TEFL Blog

Elizaveta Pachina Alumni Experiences Many ESL teachers have never even heard of phonetics or phonology, yet they use these aspects of speech naturally when they speak. Phonetics and phonology are two areas of linguistics that study the sounds of language. Phonetics focuses on individual sounds, while phonology studies the features and combination of sounds (McMahon, 1-3). There are two reasons why ESL teachers need to know phonetics and phonology: first, it helps them to conceptualize English in a way that their students can understand; and second, it helps them to address their students' difficult pronunciation problems. English idioms: Food ▷ Infographic - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT

The English language contains many set phrases whose meanings cannot be discerned by looking at the individual words that make up the phrase. These phrases are called ‘idioms’ and they are used widely by native English speakers around the world; they are also a common cause of confusion for English language learners and as such many EFL students ask their teachers to teach them English idioms.
