How to Keep Up With Classroom Organization - TEFL Blog

Teaching Ideas
When working with a large group, it is important to maintain class management to ensure all students can learn the material. A class can easily become off task due to a lack of dominance within a teacher. I had the opportunity to manage a group of six and seven-year-old students in the past and I am aware that it can be rather difficult to keep children on task. Throughout my internship, I was able to see what skills worked and what needed improvement. After reading unit 5, from the online course, I was able to connect concepts and thoughts I had from managing my class. Now that I am aware of new concepts it is easier to see how teachers can manage a classroom in a friendly but orderly manner.

In my experience as a learner and now a teacher it has become obvious that nonverbal actions play an essential role in the foreign language classroom. I believe that nonverbal communication between the teacher and their students is clearly a very useful tool for classroom management and for creating an effective classroom environment. The main aspects of nonverbal communication I have witnessed as a learner and now use myself as an EFL teacher include: eye contact, gestures and mime, facial expressions and voice projection.

Why Classroom Management Matters - TEFL Blog

This essay will focus on a few effective and ineffective strategies as well as my plan to incorporate these strategies to promote an organized classroom. My greatest fear is a large unruly class that interferes with my ability to teach. As the product of two parents who were public school educators, I understand the importance of integrating proven classroom management strategies. Without these tools, students will not be focused and may not absorb lessons as intended. As such, maintaining the attention of students will require skill and patience but once mastered, an effective learning environment will be the result. I look forward to working with students and maintaining an engaging space that is open, encouraging, and inspirational.

5 Simple Tips to Improve Your Classroom Management Skills - TEFL Blog
Linda Dunsmore
Alumni Experiences
I made a good number of blunders my first year teaching that still make me cringe. I learned though. And it's fair to say, when it comes to managing a classroom, most of what we learn as new teachers is trial by fire. It's also smart to heed the advice of those who have walked - and stumbled - before you. If you are struggling with discipline, here are five tips that you can start using right away:
1. Use a normal, natural voice
2. Speak only when students are quiet and ready
3. Use hand signals and other non-verbal communication
4. Address behavior issues quickly and wisely
5. Always have a well-designed, engaging lesson

How Classroom Management Leads to A Positive Learning Environment - TEFL Blog
Elizaveta Pachina
Teaching Ideas
Classroom management refers to how things are generally carried out in the classroom. It deals with ways on how things are supposed to be done. This includes procedures and routines among others. New teachers, however, tend to mistake classroom management and classroom discipline. Whereas classroom management is as stated above, classroom discipline is the specific management of students' behavior. By definitions alone, we can respectively differentiate the two as being the building blocks of any successful lesson and the reactive actions we take to maintain the rules that had been set through known procedures and routines.
