Bilkent University invites suitably qualified native speaker instructors for positions within the School of English Language (B.U.S.E.L.). Candidates may apply for one, or both, of 2 possible career orientations: * either, as instructors within the English Language Preparatory Program focused on developing academic English, teaching at a variety of levels from Foundation to Pre-Faculty courses; * or, as instructors in the Faculty Academic English Program focused on content-based instruction, teaching credit bearing courses as part of undergraduate or graduate degree programs. Teaching loads vary, depending on the program, up to a maximum of 25 contact hours per week.
Requirements
Applicants will be native speakers looking to teach in a stimulating and professional environment and should have a degree and a minimum of 4 years' full-time EFL/EAP experience, OR a degree and 2 years' full-time EFL/EAP experience with a Cambridge ESOL (formally UCLES) certificate, or internationally recognized TEFL certificate. For those applying for instructor positions in the Faculty Academic English Program, a higher level EFL/ESL qualification, or a relevant MA, would be a distinct advantage, along with teaching experience at the university level. An essential prerequisite for all posts will be enthusiasm for teaching and professional development.
Professional and Career Development Opportunities
The school offers professional development and advancement opportunities through in-house internationally recognized teaching qualifications (e.g. Cambridge ESOL - ICELT/ DELTA), training courses in the areas of curriculum, testing, classroom practice, materials writing, computerized learning, or an MA in Management in Education which is available to staff through part-time study. Further opportunities include positions of responsibility (with enhanced salary) in the Curriculum and Testing Unit, the Teacher Training Unit, the Textbook Writing Project, or in people management posts. Contractual Benefits Contracts run from January / February 2004 to August 2005 with the opportunity to renew subject to satisfactory performance. Successful candidates will receive: i) monthly, net salary of 1000-1500 US Dollars depending on qualifications and years of experience (50% paid in local currency and the remainder in US Dollars or Sterling); ii) meal tickets; iii) air fares and baggage allowance at the beginning and end of contract; iv) fully furnished, rent free, private flat on campus (a fee is charged for utilities and running costs); v) private and state medical insurance; vi) return air fare to home country on contract renewal every two years; vii) legal status with residence permit and work visa, and airport assistance.
