Location: In the center of Songkhla City not far from the beach and major shopping areas, restaurants and night life. Relatively quiet town in comparison to the larger Hatyai City, easy to travel and many options for accommodation.Hours: Approximately 24 hours per week in class. Teachers are only required to work Monday to Friday during class times. Each group is taught for one period a week.Curriculum: Students have a book to follow, but there is a certain level of flexibility allowed to accommodate the different groups abilities and interests.Students: Students are grade 9 and also vocational. They have had little if any contact with foreigners. A certain number of students can not read or write (both languages) which is a common problem in many Thai schools. However, these students sometimes have good listening and speaking skills (good at role-play etc.). Student numbers might be about 35 per class (average).Teaching conditions: Air conditioned classroom. Students will come and go as per the schedule. The classroom is full of materials (TV, books, dictionaries,DVD, stereo, etc.) and will have an assistant teacher employed by Stairway present for all classes. A budget of 1000B per month is allowed for additional materials as the teacher requires. The limit can be exceeded with permission.
Salary: In the range 30-35, 000 baht/month, negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. Over-time is paid for work after 4pm (optional) and on weekends (again optional).Contract: 12 months, with a minimum 20 days holiday (1 month with weekends). Holidays paid and bonus on completion of contract.Visa/ teachers license/work permit: All costs and requirements within Thailand will be covered by Stairway English. Teacher may need only to provide a few documents/photos and sign where necessary.Health care: Full in-patient and out-patient cover will be provided. The teacher chooses a private hospital and shows a card when seeing a doctor. Applicants: should be a native speaker of English and have a relevant Bachelors Degree (e.g. English, education, linguistics) or a non-relevant degree will accompanying certificate (e.g. TEFL).
