Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.
This unit discussed the various ways to organize a lesson depending on what the teacher wants to accomplish. Learning a new language has many parts (vocab, grammar, language functions) and each part needs to be addressed in its own way. While following the ESA approach, a specific lesson plan can be made to each field. It is important to know the level of the students so they can see its practical use in the outside world. How can the teacher use the board to maximum effect?
Plan on paper beforehand
Start with a clean board
Write neatly
Use correct tool
Keep board clear and easy to read
Section off the board
Use different colours for different things
Write with the appropriate sized text
Only put essential information on the board
Erase what is no longer needed
Involve students in the writing process
Clean the board at the end of the lesson
