We require two full-time Business English teachers for an in company contract in the Costa Brava region of Catalonia, Spain.

Two schedules are available: 08.00 - 13.00 (5 teaching hours) & 15.00 - 20.00 (5 teaching hours), Monday to Friday. Each class lasts one hour (50 mins) and each course lasts 40 hours. Group size is max 4 students.

Levels range from Elementary to High Intermediate. Emphasis of each course will be to consolidate and improve speaking and listening skills. For lower levels there will be greater emphasis on general English while the higher levels will focus on specific business communication. Classrooms are fully equipped.

Candidate profile

Interested applicants should hold a Cert TEFL, either a business English qualification or business work experience, some previous TEFL experience and be over 24 years.

Conditions

The first phase of the training should start around the 20th Jan 2005 and finish on 22nd March. Phase two may start on 29 March i.e. after the Easter break. Contracts are free-lance only which means the teacher will have to officially register as a free-lance teacher. Remuneration is 13 Euros gross per hour. Income tax (IRPF) of 7% is retained for teachers who have not been registered as a freelance teacher previously. Those that have and have been working for more than 2 years will pay 15% tax. Payment is monthly and the teacher should have a Spanish bank account.

Accommodation and Transport

Teaching 25 hours per week means that it is not convenient to live in Barcelona and travel to the Costa Brava each day. Applicants not living in the Costa Brava area will have to relocate. Reasonably priced coastal accommodation is plentiful from January to 15 June. The teacher is responsible for his/her transport to and from the place of work, accommodation costs and living expenses.

Application procedure

Interested candidates should send a CV together with the contact details (e-mail and phone number) of two recent referees. For short-listed candidates a preliminary interview over the phone will be conducted.

Deadline

Applications should be e-mailed to [email protected] and reach us by 14thJanuary 2005. Should interested candidates have any questions before formally applying these should be directed to the Director of Studies at the same e-mail address.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

When I first started read the material for this unit it seemed rather easy and straight forward. After studying the video I realized the material was a little more tricky than I had thought. I realize the difficultly of this subject matter for non-native English speakers but also realize that I hear many native English speakers not using the proper verb tenses with conditionals and reported speech is not always correct either.I enjoyed this unit. I can see the definite need for a good lesson plan as well as a good series of lessons planner for me as a beginning teacher. I was curious why the age of the students were not relevant. It would seem that if I had a future class of similarly aged students at the same level I would want to used the same lesson plan. I would think it is different teaching beginning adults than it is teaching beginning kids.
