Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.
This unit suggests the importance of using a course book, highlighting the advantages the teacher can benefit from. However, there are also some limits and a good teacher should be able to first see them and overcome them by integrating extra materials and activities. This section approaches the topic in a critical way and provides a few examples of creative materials along with their sources. Definitely very useful! After a couple of shorter and more straight forward units, I found this unit quite challenging and long, especially the more technical part about articulation and manner of articulation. By presenting the unit this way, it became quite clear that this aspect of teaching English is important and should be covered when teaching English. The link to the phonetic alphabet was a helpful tool to familiarise myself with it.
