Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.
This unit continues the discussion of tenses, focusing on the past tense. Similar in form and usage to the present tense, the past tense obviously relates to speaking or writing about what has taken place in the past, but has since been completed. Since the present perfect tense also deals with action that begins in the past, care should be taken when giving instruction on how to distinguish between the present perfect and past tenses.I really enjoyed this unit because of the practical knowledge relayed in the activity sections. I thought the 3x3 rule was brilliant and so helpful. I hope to see more such tips/drills in the future units. What I also found helpful was the before, during, and after breakdowns of a teaching activity, the engage/study/activate descriptions. Such sections drive the point home for me with concrete examples of what to do and what not to do.
