Teach EFL in Yemen - Aden

Date posted:2007-03-05 | Writer: American Language Center | Email: [email protected]

American Language Center (ALC) is an established private language college located in the ancient port city of Aden in the Republic of Yemen. We currently have a teaching position available for a suitably-qualified ESL teacher who is available to start April 28, 2007. We seek applicants who can satisfy us that they meet the following criteria:

● are English native speakers with passports from either the US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa or New Zealand; ● hold at least a bachelor degree (preferably in English or linguistics); ● hold a certificate in CELTA, TESOL, TEFL or similar; ● can demonstrate experience in teaching English as a second language to students at all levels of ability; AND ● possess excellent grammar skills;

We are looking to appoint a full-time teacher for a 6 or 12 month contract. Teaching hours are 6 hours per day, mornings and/or afternoons depending on class scheduling. We teach in five-week sessions - weekends are off - and a break of one week follows each session.

We offer a minimum tax-free salary of US $900.00 per session (airfare not included) or US $700.00 per session (airfare return included). If that doesn't sound lucrative, consider that the average salary in Yemen is less than US $100.00 per month. The cost of living is extremely low. If you have considerable debts to pay off at home this is probably not the job for you, but if you're looking for a stepping stone to a more highly-paid job elsewhere in the Middle East this is a great chance to gain invaluable experience.

ALC arranges and pays for your entry visa, work permit and shared accommodation in our teachers villa. Optional overtime, free field trips and free Arabic classes are also available.

Please bear in mind that Yemen is a conservative Muslim country that may not suit everyone. If you're looking for a paid holiday or year-long party, Yemen definitely isn't for you. However if you're an ESL professional with an adventurous spirit and looking to teach some of the friendliest people in a country almost no one sees, your fond memories of Yemen will last a lifetime.

If you're interested in this position, be sure to include the following with your application:

● a copy of your CV/resume; ● a copy of your passport's photo page; AND ● a copy of all relevant academic certificates.

Please e-mail applications or queries to the Director of Studies, Mr. Eijse Blaauw at [email protected]

We apologise in advance that not all applicants may receive a response due to the high volume of applications.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit describes different special types of English classes. The most common type is the beginner group, which is related to comparatively most standard and typical teaching techniques. Other groups may require special preparation. For example, for teaching young learners the teacher may need to significantly deviate from his normal behavior by being more active or vocal to maintain the attention of the children.in this unit i learned different ways to test and evaluate students. there are four different assessment tests which are placement test, progress test, diagnostic test, and practice test. first one identifies student English level. second one is usually taken to see the improvement in students. third one is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the students and last one is to practice by taking external tests.
