An established group of schools looking for an experienced Head of English who has preferably worked in a similar school setting. The ideal candidate will be fully qualified with QTS, have excellent knowledge of the UKNC and be able to deliver up to A level standard. A candidate that has worked in an Islamic faith school would be ideal for this type of role based on the student and staff population.
You will be required to raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and to monitor and support student progress. Have accountability for student progress and development within the subject area. To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others. Ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils studying in the department, in accordance with the aims of the school and the curricular policies determined by the Principal. Have accountability for leading, managing and developing the subject/curriculum area. Manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the department effectively to support the department development plan.
Requirements to Apply
Bachelor's degree in English
A PGCE in English with QTS
An M.Ed or TESOL is preferred
At least 5 years of teaching experience
Experience of being a HoD English - at least 2 years
Specialised in teaching Teaching and Learning to further develop staff
Excellent ICT skills
The ability to roll out online learning if needed
Have an excellent command of written and spoken English
Trained from a recognised university

Job Description
To develop and review syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the department.
To actively monitor and follow up student progress. To work with colleagues to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans for the department which have coherence and relevance to the needs of the students and to the aims, objectives and strategic plans of the School. To be accountable for the development and support delivery of the Department’s curriculum.
To keep up to date with and respond to developments in the subject area and teaching practice and methodology.
To undertake Performance Management Review(s) and to act as reviewer for a group of staff within the designated department.
To make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent, ensuring appropriate cover within the department, liaising with the cover supervisor/relevant staff to secure appropriate cover.
To participate in the interview process for teaching posts when required and to facilitate induction of new staff in line with school procedures.
To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working relations.
To be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff within the designated department and act as a positive role model.
To establish common standards of practice within the department and develop the effectiveness of teaching and learning styles.
To contribute to the school procedures for lesson observation.
To ensure that all members of the department are familiar with departmental aims and objectives within the framework of the School Development Plan.
To ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with the parents of pupils.
To participate in regular training sessions as part of professional development (PD).
Support the aims and ethos of the school as reflected in the Mission Statement.
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
Any additional tasks/project assigned to you by school management.
