Volunteer TEFL Teachers Required in Dominican Republic

Date posted:2011-05-31 | Writer: Nueva Luz | Email: [email protected]

We are located in Nagua on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The volunteer project is organized in support of Nueva Luz Christian School (Colegio Evangelico Nueva Luz). We are starting a Bilingual project next scholar year 2011-2012 and are looking for TEFL qualified teachers who are prepared to be involved in supporting the school in teaching English and other subjects, as well as tutoring the students and counseling them, specially in pre-school, k to elementary and middle school. Our school is a mixed school offering formal Spanish education to pre-school, elementary, middle and High school students of Nagua area. We aim to encourage the students to value education, mentor them, and bring to this tourist area the bases of a different education based in English as a second language. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions. For more information, contact Nueva Luz at the e-mail address given on the job heading.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit has been quite useful in teaching me about the different levels of learners, the different tests one can give them in order to calculate their progress, achievement, where to place them according to their level, their aptitude, their proficiency and any diagnostics needed. It has also been useful in highlighting the different English examinations available and which age groups they pertain to.This section has looked at the language in a more linguistic fashion, which I had not considered as an element I would need to use in teaching. It is an interesting aspect, looking at the ways in which we can shape the language via the pronunciation and phonetics used. The use of the phonetic alphabet to display the correct pronunciation is, I think, a very useful tool and one which I strive to develop.
