TEFL in Saitama, Japan

Date posted:2004-03-31 | Writer: Kidz Talk Ltd. | Email: [email protected]

Kidz Talk is the private English school only for children age from 5 to 18 years old. There are about 170 students in all but no more than 8 students in one class. Our students each come once a week for an hour and a half. Basically, a native English teacher and I, Naomi Yamamoto, Director of Kidz Talk teach all the students. There is also a part time Japanese teacher who teaches once a week.

We aim to make English fun, so we play lots of games, but also use books to supplement learning. Special events include Halloween and Christmas week-long parties, summer school 3-day trip and an English card game tournament.

Our working hours are from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm through Monday to Friday. Holidays are Saturdays, Sundays, Japanese national holidays with four weeks paid vacation per year.

Kidz Talk is located in Hanno, Saitama, Japan. Hanno is about an hour train ride from Tokyo. It's a nice Japanese suburb and the cost of living is low (compared to living in Tokyo). It is surrounded by nature and has some Japanese traditional sights.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit was a reminder of the different types of future tenses. The different verb tenses in the English language are hard to learn and use. There are so many different ways to say the same thing. Even as a native English speaker, I have a hard time knowing which tense is which. By reading this unit, I hope to better understand how to use the different tenses and be able to connect with the students and how they are learning. This unit discussed about the productive skills namely speaking and writing. It also presented the different aspects included in each productive skill, such as fluency and accuracy for speaking skill while writing skill include penmanship, spelling, punctuation and layout. I learned how to make a creative writing and speaking lesson plan and the various games I can use to create a stimulating learning environment in the classroom.
