Date posted:2011-06-30 | Writer: Canterbury School | Email: [email protected]

Canterbury School is a private language centre based in Schio, a town in the North East of Italy. We are looking for a motivated, confident, enthusiastic, and lively native English speaking teacher who can speak at least a basic level of Italian to teach one to one classes and groups at all ages and all levels. TEFL / TESOL Certificate is required. Teachers need to have a valid EU passport and a clean driving licence, and they have to bring with them European Health Card or International health card. Our school is wonderfully located. It is very close to cities like Vicenza, Verona and above all Venice. So, if you like teaching English as a second language, but you also love art, history, culture, and beauty, its the perfect place for you because all these cities and many other fascinating sites are easily accessible and can be reached within one hour. If you love nature and sports, our charming mountains are near at hand and if you have a love of water here you have the Adriatic sea and Lake Garda! We offer full time legal contract to the end of June 2012 with a guaranteed minimum weekly workload. Teachers are paid 10 net per hour (which is 18 with VAT), so the salary is usually between 1000 and 1200 . It depends on how many hours they have got. Health insurance and retirement found is paid by us. The amount is enough to live comfortably in Italy, to pay the accommodation bills, to travel as you wish, to enjoy the Italian way of life. We provide the teacher with private accommodation near the school; the school pays the rent but the teacher must pay the bills with their salary. We have two types of accommodation: a flat to share with other teachers (100 per month per person and an adjustment in the spring because of the heating used in the winter months), or a single mini-flat (100 per month for general maintenance plus the cost of the bills for water, electricity and heating), according to the availability. The usual workload is about 20/25 hours a week (approx) and the lessons can be in the morning, the afternoon and in the evening (Monday to Friday and sometimes Saturday mornings). We usually try to concentrate them as much as possible so that when teachers come to school they carry out several lessons & not for just one lesson. We need our teachers to have a valid driving licence because some courses are located in business in the area so you may need to drive there. All teachers have free access to the teachers resource library, computers and a free in-house teacher training package (both on-arrival and ongoing). In our school there is a nice atmosphere and a friendly working environment within a dynamic team. This position could be suitable for a person who wants to try a new exciting experience and who would like to have the opportunity to live the Italian life and culture. So, if you think you are a responsible, patient, enthusiastic, and creative person, who has the above required documents, who feels like living this new experience in our great country please contact us at the e-mail address given on the job heading confirming you qualify, A.S.A.P!Dott.ssa Cusano NicolettaTel / Fax: +39 0445 52 84 43Canterbury SchoolVia Baccarini, 936015 Schio (Vicenza)Italy

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

In this unit I learned about troubleshooting in the classroom. Problem situations can occur under many circumstances including first lessons, warmers, different level students, large classes, over usage of the students' native language, reluctant student participation, and listening texts. Although problem situations will arise at one time or another, they can be navigated with tools given in this unit. This stuff is tricky, I will have to spend more time with students on these components as it is where I even as a native speaker got hung up a few times. Overall it is a very helpful lesson and the idea of small nuance in our grammar shifting the meaning to such a great deal not only will help my teaching ability but also my personal pursuit of other languages. Most challenging and rewarding lesson yet.
