Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.
Coursebooks and lesson material are truly helpful when it comes to the inexperienced teacher. Coursebooks, especially are helpful because they provide a guideline for the teacher in terms of lesson planning and they also put the inexperienced teacher at ease when it comes to creativity. Teaching is a flexible skill and may be applied in various ways in order to benefit the teacher and mostly the students. This unit is about teaching new material. For example, when teaching new vocabulary it is important to consider how the words are similar to words students already know, either via closeness to their native language or proximity to English words they already know. When teaching new grammar it should be considered what grammar the students already know and how this will build upon their current knowledge.
