LIVING IN JAKARTA

Jakarta is a bustling Asian metropolis. A city of contrasts, there are all night discos and shining shopping malls, yet many of its people carry on centuries old traditions from all parts of Indonesia. It is also safer than you may have been led to believe.

Around half of our teacher are on their second or third year. They have decided to stay because they like living in Jakarta and they enjoy working for our school.

Our school is located in suburban Jakarta, about a 20 minute taxi ride from the city center. Teachers have the best of both worlds : a quiet place to live and all Jakarta has to offer not far away.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit seemed less focused on the actual teaching of pronunciation and more on understanding it. However I rather enjoyed the study of the International Phonetic Alphabet. There were a couple of good tips on teaching such as letting the students see your mouth exaggerate the sounds and using tongue twisters but I would have liked to see more in depth information on the various approaches to teaching pronunciation.I appreciate the use of videos to help me better understand what is expected of me for when I go abroad to teach. I genuinely struggled to watch the first video, it was very dis-engaging and I seemed to have paused and picked up my phone a few times just so I could get through the video. I am hoping that with my past experiences from tutoring that my approach was more like Mark's second video rather than his first.
