Our Learning Center is located in the heart of the pedestrian zone in downtown Mainz, near the Cathedral and Old Town.  Mainz's Old Town, its inner city, is the pride and joy of the city-scene. Broad, roomy squares, lovingly-restored half-timbered houses and magnificent Baroque churches give the Old Town its charming, "gemuetlich" character. There are also many interesting shops waiting to be discovered.

Earliest start date:  March 2008

Length of contract:  minimum one year. Berlitz in Germany offers freelance contracts to new instructors. Most of our classes take place in the morning or evening hours, Monday through Friday with lessons also taking place on Saturday mornings. Working hours are flexible and often change from week to week depending on customer requests and demand for lessons.

Regarding workpermission, visa requirements:

If you are an American, Canadian or other non-EU citizen, you need to have a permit to reside, and ultimately work in Germany. You can enter Germany with a three-month tourist visa and receive a restricted residency permit. Once you have signed a contract, you go to the federal office and have your visa extended to one year with permission to work as a free-lance instructor. In most cases the visa applications are approved. The fee for obtaining a visa with permission to work as a free-lance instructor is about $40.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

In this module I have seen the differences between a poorly taught lesson and one that is effective. By absorbing these differences I can acknowledge how to teach a lesson in which students are engaged and learning effectively with positive responses as opposed to a lesson where students are reluctant to partcipate. Therefore moving forward I will use the effective techniques to deliver a positive teaching style.Unlike writing were grammar rules could be quickly checked, pronunciation, since it affected by stress, intonation, and phonology, it could be elusive to native speakers. Also, these rules could only be applied in a general sense; there is no hard and fast rule for them. Plus, intonation is on the sentence level, while stress is on the word level. The two could affect each other making this area hard to teach.
