Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.
There are a multitude of ways to structure a lesson plan. Level of the students, particular goals, and needs of the students (based on feedback) are all a part of it. It is key to follow certain paths to best teach the students. ESA, or Engage - Study - Activate, is a building block on which to structure a classroom. A highlight is learning that one of my favorite things, games, are an essential part of the English learning experience. The grammar covered in this unit is quite difficult for both teachers and students. I have found that students struggle to understand the subtleties and to use the correct tense in these patterns. As a teacher, I also struggle to explain these concepts effectively to the students. The activities suggested will help greatly in providing context for this difficult material. I will also keep these charts handy for my higher level classes!
