Teacher of EAL in Secondary School
Responsibilities:
• Teach EAL in grades six through twelve at all phases • Communicate and meet with parents
• Administer in-class EAL student support
• Provide structured subject support in EAL Support classes - Write and grade assessments according to IB MYP Criteria requirements - Participate in Oxford CEFR testing
• Record and share with parents assessment data at regular intervals during the school year
• Collaborate with colleagues from within and outside of the department
• Engage in professional development
• Teach MYP and DP – Language B • Participate in departmental and other meetings as needed.
The ideal candidate would also be able to serve as EAL Coordinator as a Special Responsibility Assignment (SRA) which comes with additional stipend.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have subject and teaching qualifications, preferably at the Master level. Experience teaching the IB MYP and the IB Diploma, especially in Language B is desired. Training in current methodology in the teaching of both native- speakers and second-language learners at the secondary school (grade 6-12) level is essential. We are seeking applicants who are familiar with data-driven decision making and a keen understanding of language development. Experience with technology and up to date instructional strategies and practices are an asset. The successful candidate is dynamic and has the ability to engage with and motivate secondary school students to achieve high standards of academic achievement.
Terms of Employment:
• Starting date is 1 August 2024
• The position is initially limited until 31 July 2026 with the option of permanent employment thereafter
• The position is a full-time position
