St. Dominic’s International School in Lisbon has an opportunity for an EAL teacher who is available to start in September 2018. This is an ideal opportunity to advance your TEFL career to another level. We have long played an important part in education in Portugal, being one of the first schools, globally, to introduce a programme from the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) . It remains the only three programme IB school in the country, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP) to close to eight hundred students from around the world.

Only 25 kilometers from the vibrant city of Lisbon and close to the shore, St. Dominic’s green, open-air campus is a uniquely safe and peaceful environment that promotes a sense of community. Our students explore, experiment, and create in over 48 fully equipped classrooms and 2 well-resourced libraries, multiple Science, Technology and Computer labs and dedicated Art, Music and Drama rooms. Our commitment to outdoor and physical education is reflected in our two multi-use Gymnasiums and Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, and Badminton areas.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

While modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice can be challenging for student to understand, they are an important step in refining the English language. Students utilize modal auxiliary verbs to express obligation, permission, possibility, ability and advice. By teaching passive voice, teachers expand the students knowledge of more complex syntax and ways of communicating in English. At first, I thought IPA will be hard for me to understand, as I have never learned it before. Learning the mouth diagram with the IPA made it easier to understand. I think it also depends upon the individuals accent when pronouncing. Intonation is also important as it carries the message of the spoken sentence. I think this made me realize that clarity is more important than accuracy.
