Within this unit, videos of a real ESL class were viewed in order to see how a real classroom functions and how much influence a teacher has on the success of their class. I noticed that very simple mistakes, like a poor attitude, an aggressive voice or a lack of connection with the students can have a real impact on whether or not students will feel comfortable enough to participate and be willing to learn.There are three main parts of language that need to be taught: vocabulary, grammar, and function. In this unit, I learned about what exactly students should learn in each of those categories as well as how to teach the appropriate content with effective techniques. This unit also provided suggestions about what pattern of an ESA lesson is most effective for teaching either vocabulary, grammar, or function.
