Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.
This section was a review of the parts of speech. It explained the grammar rules and offered several examples for the following: nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, and prepositions. I found the breakdown and reasoning very helpful since I am a native speaker and most of this comes naturally. I particularly found the rule for listing adjectives interesting - size, age, color, material, noun.I feel some teachers will more naturally be able to figure what order to do these things in class. However, some teachers will have more trouble. So I think it is good to teach this. I see how it is helpful to have a natural and fluid flow to the class. Teachers should lead the class to move from engaging the class, then to teaching them significant things through the study phase, and finally to the activate stage.
