TEFL in Hohhot, China

Date posted:2004-04-29 | Writer: New World Language School | Email: [email protected]

New World Language School is looking for a Dynamic, Culturally aware native speaker (USA, NZ, AUS, UK, SA, CAN) to assist with the running of small conversation classes in our Hohhot home.

This is Inner Mongolia - a far cry from the bright lights of Shanghai and Fuzhou: Hohhot is a developing city, donkey carts are common on the street and not all of our sidewalks have been paved. However, if you want to experience a REAL slice of Chinese and Mongolian Culture then you should consider this an exiting opportunity.

Our emphasis is on exchange - our students rarely see Western faces. Indeed nor will you see many here. We want you to eat with us, drink with us, dance with us. Let us share perspectives on our different worlds.

On our doorstep we have Nomadic Mongol Tribes, Deserts, Camels and Grassland. Home to the Reincarnation of the living Buddha, it is an important town both for Tibetan and Mongol Pilgrims. Not only that our summers are warm and dry - a blue sky nearly every day!!

The teaching schedule is light - between 10 and 18 hours each week. This is mainly divided up into 1?-hour lessons so the number of lessons is few. We want you to have time to experience life here. Our students range from low-level Kindergarten to high school students with a good grasp of English. Teaching is concentrated on weekends leaving most of the week relativly free.

3000RMB/Month Ok, ok this is not at the higher end of the scale. But nor is life in Hohhot. Where in the South East can you get a beer for 2RMB or a meal in the best restaurant in town for 25RMB? The average salary in Hohhot is between 500 - 1000 RMB/Month. Living like a king should see you saving at least 1000 RMB a month.

Fully Furnished Modern Apartment (TV, VCD, Washing Machine, F/Freezer etc) Your very own Bicycle and countless invitations to dinner, lunch etc

Interested? - send us an e-mail (preferably with cv/resume) and we will be happy to accommodate

Many thanks for your consideration Frank Liu and Jackie Sue

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit describes the advantages and disadvantages of different types of course material and provides a multitude of examples of good exercises that can be used in both the learning and activate phases. It was especially helpful to me to have the URL's of various sites where I could go to find good resources, particularly for the study phase of ESA. I enjoyed reading the unit but for some reason found the test to be difficult! After this unit of study, I learned the two major materials for English study, authentic materials and created materials respectively. Authentic materials are great for fluency building and the acquisition of authentic words people use in daily English, while it’s not a good choice for beginners. Created materials are designed by the teacher to supply for the class, it’s already been graded to the level of the students.
