This unit is about pronunciation and phonology. These areas are often neglected when teaching English. Phonology in particular is difficult to understand for both students learning the English language and native English speakers. Phonology can be taught through multiple methods such as visuals, peer dictation, and tongue twisters. The dictionary is also a useful tool when examining the phonemic spelling of words.Stressing different elements of a sentence allows for expression of different meanings and feelings and there are many rules on what words should and should not be stressed. In English we join words using four different methods including linking (Marble Arch becomes marblarch), sound dropping (bond street becomes bon street), sound changing (green park becomes greem park) and extra lettering ( anna becomes anner).
