The International School of Macao is a vibrant and rapidly growing school of 1,400 students representing forty different countries. TIS offers a well-rounded and developmentally appropriate curriculum for students in pre-kindergarten to Grade 12, culminating in the Alberta High School Diploma and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma recognized by universities worldwide.

We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative Academic Counsellor who is committed to supporting our students in achieving their academic and personal goals. The successful candidate will be an innovative thinker with a passion for education and a commitment to helping students develop the skills and attitudes necessary for lifelong learning and community engagement.

As an Academic Counsellor at our school, you will play a critical role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that enables all students to thrive. You will work closely with students, families, and staff to provide personalised academic counselling and support, helping students navigate their educational journey and overcome any challenges they may face.

* Assist students in selecting their courses, ensuring they have the correct prerequisites to graduate with an Alberta High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, or both

* Provide individualised academic planning and goal-setting support for students

* Collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, and the community to support student success

* Advocate for students in individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings

* Analyse data to identify student issues, needs, and challenges

* Administer standardised and entrance tests (SAT, PSAT AP, Cambridge, etc.) as requested by the Secondary Principal

* Provide input into the timetable and courses offered by TIS.

* Help organise and run the annual University Fair

* Support university applications for multiple countries and contexts

* Teach one unit in the grade 10 Career and Life Management Class on future plans

* Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and documentation

* Refer students to support services as needed through the student welfare committee.

* Stay informed about academic policies, procedures, and resources, and guide students and families on how to access and utilise these resources

* Participate in professional development activities to enhance counselling skills and knowledge

* Perform other duties as assigned to support student success and well-being

The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a Bachelor of Education with a focus in Secondary Education. They should also possess a certificate specialising in Academic Counselling. A TEFL/TESOL certificate or diploma is preferred.

All new staff are required to be certified in first aid. There is a generous compensation package commensurate with qualifications and experience, as well as medical, dental and living allowance benefits.
