Secondary Inclusion Teacher Job Description (Expansion Position)

Core Purpose:

The Inclusion Teacher’s core responsibilities are to work closely with the Administration, IB Programme Coordinators, and other members of the faculty and community to support the unique educational needs of students requiring assistance in order to fully access the curriculum. The Inclusion Teacher must therefore possess excellent relational qualities and communications skills in order to effectively engage, guide and support their colleagues to best meet the learning needs of all students, while similarly demonstrating empathy and clarity of direction for students and their parents.

Professional Qualifications and Qualities:

Bachelor or Post-Graduate level degree in learning support/special needs

Hold a formal teacher certification (TEFL/TESOL)

Minimum four years of full-time experience providing learning support, ideally across the secondary school age range (Year 6 - 12). Ideally, they will have five or more years of formal experience as a learning support/special needs teacher.

Ability to collaborate with others and work in a team.

Self-starter, have energy and enthusiasm for education in an educational environment and be able to work with a wide range of people, often under pressure.

Responsibilities:

Provide a proactive, frontline support service, in identifying and resolving student issues, and where specialist service interventions have been identified, to ensure that the necessary referrals are made efficiently and professionally to the team. Developing support plans for students with specific disorders.

Writing IEPs and intervention processes.

Support the planning and scaffolding of lessons to assist individualised learning needs.

Provide information, advice and support to students on a range of academic issues through structured sessions and informal drop-ins.

Maintain appropriate records and data, and facilitate information sharing to ensure effective delivery in a shared environment.

Prepare and disseminate a range of information, guidance materials, workshops and events for students, and staff, for delivery via a variety of media including face-to-face, telephone, and instructional videos.

Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of Inclusion policies and procedures.

Collect and review feedback from students and staff.

Subject Knowledge

Learning and behavioural disorders, and targeted learning support provision across early childhood, elementary, and secondary grade levels.

Gifted and Talented

Assessment / Testing

Administration and interpretation of language proficiency assessment tools (e.g. LAS, WIDA), and the direct instruction of second language learners

Explaining external SEN and WIDA reports to teachers and parents.

Other duties and responsibilities:

Provide group and one-on-one parent meetings or workshops that help the parenting community understand that all students have individual needs, and AISPP aims to meet students where they are with respect and dignity.

Liaise with outside speech therapists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and behavioural therapists to support students at AISPP.

Actively participate in Student Support Team meetings

Collaborate with staff and parents to achieve the best possible outcomes for students.
