Primary Teacher

At Southbridge International School Cambodia (SISC), it is the role of a primary teacher to teach a class of up to 25 students depending on the grade level. Students in grades 1 to 5 will be taught based on the Cambridge Primary Curriculum Framework.

A teacher must…

? have a solid understanding of the Cambridge International curriculum standards and have experience closing the achievement gap.

? develop engaging and innovative lessons that allow our students to grow academically, socially and emotionally.

? incorporate technology and hands-on learning experiences into the classroom with enthusiasm.

? believe in collaboration with other colleagues and promotes understanding and communication in a diverse learning and cultural environment.

? provide mandatory lesson plans, semester plans, and other essential documentation as required.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

? Deliver dynamic and effective lessons to nurture students’ desire to learn

? Achieve the learning goals of the Cambridge International Curriculum through the content and structure of the curriculum and its methods of delivery.

? Design and implement a comprehensive and appropriately sequenced learning program for students, reflecting current pedagogical practice and individual playing standard.

? Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on national, local and school standards in education and research and knowledge of developmental behaviors.

? Planning and implementation of cross curricular learning and teaching.

? Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations and independent practice using a variety of proven methods.

? Differentiate lessons when needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency or level of interest in the subject.

? Create an environment of active and genuine learning by employing a range of teaching strategies that meet the needs of all students.

? Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks or other standard test practices.

? Monitor student’s attendance to make sure the absent reported/communicate designated office on time.

? Select appropriate repertoire and teaching materials of mathematics and to develop a creative approach to teaching and learning.

? Plan, coordinate and prepare activities for the school and community, and assist students with effective display and presentation of their works

? Monitor each student’s progress and keep the student and parents informed of progress, through the use of Managebac and other communication methods.

? Being responsible for assisting students in internal or external competitions or activities.

? Develop, organise, and assist in the school’s co-curricular/after-school programs/extra-curricular activities when needed.

? Working collaboratively with other staff to ensure that suitable events and activities are prepared within a minimum disruption of normal schedule.

? Participate in subject or area association meetings as appropriate and maintain relationships with professional associations. Actively pursue the development and improvement of your subject area by accessing and implementing up to date teaching methods and curriculum tools.

? Be available for any other duties as required within the level and scope of the position and familiarise with the school calendar of events, including but not limited to, class activities.

? Be a positive role model to students, parents, colleagues and the broader community of SISC.

? Conform with and uphold all policies and procedures of SISC and take all reasonable care to ensure that any actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of others in the school.

? Apply the basic knowledge expected of a professional position with respect to the principles of anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation and how they would apply in a workplace. Be able to describe the principles of equal opportunity and valuing diversity.

? Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and achieving best practice in matters relating to student wellbeing and child safety by implementing SISC policies and practices.

? Maintain professional standards of communication with staff, parents and students using appropriate channels.

? Other tasks assigned by superior.

Qualifications:

? Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent

? Teaching certification/licence

? Three years of international school experience

? Ability to communicate at all levels in the respective way

? Display warmth, care and sensitivity in dealing with children.

? Ability to see potential problems and work through solutions until resolution is reached

? Ability to work cooperatively within a team.

? Excellent interpersonal skills

? Able to work with minimal supervision

? Willingness to work outside of normal office hours (such as evenings and weekends), with compensation through time in lieu.

? Ability to follow instructions accurately and to show initiative where appropriate

? Ability to organise the work of others and to work to deadlines

? Compliance to school policies such as professional dress code, deadline to submit grades, behaviour management, and so on.
