The International School of Penang (Uplands) is a leading not-for-profit international school located in Malaysia, offering an exceptional education to students from around the world. We are seeking a well-qualified and experienced Middle School Learning Support Teacher to join the Student Support Unit in January 2025 and help us deliver an outstanding educational experience for our students. This is a new position we are creating to support us to better meet the needs of our students and our vision of inclusivity. We are looking for a suitable candidate to start in January 2025, this would be the start of Term 2 in our school year but would be willing to consider a suitable candidate who could start earlier.
Position Overview:
As a Middle School Learning Support Teacher, you will:
- Provide inclusive and appropriate support to a range of students with learning differences, prioritising those who need the most help
- Work in a one-to-one and small-group setting, and/or within the regular classroom as needed
- Work collaboratively with subject teachers to provide practical advice and support that enables them to deliver lessons and set assessments that promote inclusion
- Administer appropriate diagnostic assessments to identify learning differences and to provide results of tests to teachers, parents, school counsellor and other stakeholders
- Develop student Individualised Educational Plans (IEPs) for individualised learning and access arrangements to help students improve their performance, implement and update them regularly
- Collaborate with the senior leadership team, Heads of Year and teaching staff to ensure that students with learning difficulties receive the most appropriate support and resources
- Be a part of the admissions process: review admissions documentation and make learning support placement recommendations
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, challenges, and successes. Provide support and resources to help families understand and advocate for their child's needs

Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field, Master’s degree preferred.
- TEFL/TESOL certificate preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of recent international special education, SENCO, or learning support teaching experience OR experience working with middle school-aged students
- Knowledge of IB MYP curriculum is a distinct advantage
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organisational, problem solving and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members
