The EAL Teacher plays a pivotal role in ensuring EAL students in the Primary Years have the necessary support to thrive academically, socially, and culturally.
Student Support:
Identify EAL students in the Primary years division.
Assess individual language learning needs through ongoing observation and data analysis.
Develop and implement personalised learning plans (PLPs) for EAL students in collaboration with class teachers.
Monitor student progress and adjust PLPs as needed.
Facilitate small group or individual EAL support sessions.
Curriculum Access:
Collaborate with class teachers to ensure EAL students have full access to the Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum.
Develop and share resources and strategies to support EAL students in comprehending and engaging with classroom materials.
Advocate for EAL students within the school community.
Staff Development:
Provide professional development opportunities for teachers on effective EAL pedagogy and differentiated instruction for multilingual learners.
Coach and mentor teachers in implementing EAL strategies in their classrooms.
Foster a collaborative environment where teachers feel supported in meeting the needs of EAL students.
Communication and Collaboration:
Build strong relationships with EAL families, providing support and information on their child's education.
Liaise with external agencies involved in EAL student support.
Work collaboratively with the school leadership to ensure a cohesive EAL program across the school.
Data Management and Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date data on EAL student progress.
Develop and monitor an annual EAL Action Plan aligned with the school's overall goals.
Provide regular reports on the effectiveness of the EAL program to the Principal Primary and Early Years.
Contribute to the school's equality policy and schemes as related to EAL students.
Essential Skills and Qualities:
-Qualified teacher with experience in Primary (PYP) education.
-Experience teaching the Australian Curriculum is highly desired
-Demonstrated expertise in EAL pedagogy and differentiated instruction.
-TEFL/TESOL preferred
-Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
-Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Passion for promoting inclusion and celebrating cultural diversity.
-Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse learners is highly desirable.
