Red Sweater Project has a position for an EFL teacher to manage an English Immersion Program between September and December. We work with local community members in the creation of affordable, accessible and advanced educational opportunities for children in rural Tanzania. The organization currently operates in Mungere Secondary School near the town of Mto wa Mbu, Tanzania. 40 young and bright children will begin Form I classes at Mungere Secondary School in January 2013, when further teaching opportunities will come available. Our students live in a remote Maasai community, where English is rarely spoken, and primary schooling is taught in Kiswahili. Yet, Tanzanian secondary school curriculum is English-based and the language barrier can be an obstacle to learning. The 4-month English Immersion Program is designed to develop language skills that will enable understanding and active participation during future secondary school courses.Responsibilities Engage students through interactive pedagogy Contribute innovative lesson plans Manage classroom activities Coordinate extra-curricular activities and sportsQualifications University degree ESL certification (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, or equivalent) Experience in the classroom Commitment to interactive and engaging education Professionalism and passion Experience traveling, living and/or teaching abroad preferred Interest in Tanzania’s indigenous cultures and traditions Ability to live in a developing community Flexibility to work individually and as part of a diverse teamWhat To Expect from the Organization: We pick you up at Kilimanjaro Airport and transport you to your new home We arrange and furnish (shared) housing We provide orientation, familiarizing you with life in Tanzania and school operations We do NOT charge volunteer program fees We provide teaching materials (but you are welcome and encouraged to bring your own) We provide assistance with travel planning and arrangements We welcome your input and value your suggestionsWhat The Organization Expects of You: You use your passion and experience to the benefit of students You cover your living expenses ($300/month average) You pay for airfare, visas, and immunizations You pay for your health insurance and medical expenses (if any) You agree to follow our volunteer safety policyThe project's location is near northern Tanzania's game park circuits and only a short distance to Mt.
