Bishop Mackenzie International School (BMIS) is an international, coeducational day school, and the only IB World School in Malawi. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from mid-August to early December, from early January through late March, and early April to late June. Our +600 students consist of 50 different nationalities.
BMIS serves the diplomatic, NGO, Government, and business communities in the capital Lilongwe. It is accredited by CIS and NEASC, and is a member of AISA.
We are currently actively recruiting for a Primary Teacher for next academic year, who preferably has PYP experience.
Some of the characteristics that we look for in teachers are the following:
• Teaching certificate preferred (TEFL/TESOL).
• Someone who can recognize and teach to the needs of the individual child.
• A teacher who knows how to use a variety of methods, strategies, and instructional techniques as well as understands how these fit into the BMIS curriculum.
• Someone who has the ability to work as a team member in all aspects of school life.
• People who actively work to involve community members in the learning process; both inside and outside of the school environment.
• Teachers who actively take part in staff development opportunities and view themselves as learners too.
An appropriate degree and teaching certificate in the relevant subject are essential, plus at least two years relevant experience. 2-year package includes US dollar-linked salary with gratuity, annual flights, baggage, accommodation, and international insurance. Please note BMIS is aligned with the recommendations of the International Task Force on Child Protection, and we hold ourselves to a high standard of effective recruiting practices with specific attention to child protection.
