Teaching method: Most classes have a course book but teachers are encouraged to tailor their own program to the students needs - i.e. no rigid program. Lots of materials for roles plays, grammar games, discussion topics etc. are available and teachers should copy lots of extra material for the students.
A sound knowledge of English grammar is essential - teachers who cannot explain grammar in Germany will have a hard time keeping their credibility with students. For those who don't have this we do organise training times with you before you go into classes.
Student levels: Most Germans have had 3-4 years of English at school - so they usually have the basics. Typically they need work on fixing past simple, present simple, present perfect etc.. About 70% of the classes are at this level. The rest are beginners or more advanced students.
Cost of living in Germany: the schools are not in expensive areas of Germany. A teacher typically has the following costs per month:
1. Housing - Euro 350 - 450 per month - some teachers have costs under this - this will get you an apartment of ca. 40 - 50 m2.
2. Food & Basics: Euro 300 per month - this is on the very high side.
Which leaves a teacher with at least Euro 400 per month for other spending needs - if any.

POSITION TITLE: English Language Program Teacher
BASIC FUNCTION:
To deliver English Language training to New Horizons students following the New Horizons delivery system, method and procedures.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Class Preparation:
• Accountable for designing and developing individual Lesson Plans
following the methods and systems outlined by Program Manager.
• Ensure timely and appropriate delivery of classroom Exercise and/or
Conversation Club classes.
• Ensure compliance with New Horizons policies and practices for program
delivery and customer service.
• Ensure that prior to each lesson the online course is reviewed and understood.
2. Instruction:
• Be present in the New Horizons center 40 hours a week.
• Teach up to 33 hours a week.
• Spend at least 7 hours a week preparing classes or aiding students.
• Monitor and report student progress using the Teacher Management System (TMS).
• Attend staff meetings.
3. Program Administration:
• Conduct, score and interpret student on-line, written and oral placement tests.
• Determine the proper placement of students in classes based on test scores.
• Advise students on such issues as progress and performance by regularly monitoring progress.
• Submit a collection of lesson plans on a monthly basis to Program Manager for review.
4. Other duties as determined by General Manager.

We offer full time legal contract to the end of June 2012 with a guaranteed minimum weekly workload. We usually try to concentrate them as much as possible so that when teachers come to school they work for some hours, not for just one lesson. Working Conditions:
Teaching hours range from 18-22 a week, may vary on a school per school basis.
Class sizes range from 35-45 students per class.
Teachers will work Monday through Friday from 7:50 am to 4.30 pm. In some schools, foreign teachers may teach side by side with a Thai teacher. In other cases they will be solely responsible for their classes. This is up to the discretion of the school.
The first semester runs from May 2012 to October 2012.
The second semester runs from November 2012 to March 2013.

Prepare lessons plan to meet the class English levels.
Maintain weekly office hours.
Maintain student grading/assessment.
