The Florence city center is a UNESCO heritage site. You should of course visit museums, gardens and churches, but you should also explore the city on foot. Florence is a small Renaissance city; you can walk from one end to the other in 30 minutes. The Via Lingua Florence training center is in downtown Florence, surrounded by stunning architecture, shopping, outdoor cafés and restaurants.

The School

The TEFL Training center in Florence city center is located in a full service language school, operational since 1959. With several multi-purpose classrooms, computer lab, resource area, and a huge terrace overlooking the historical center, the school is an ideal venue for your course. While attending the TEFL course, you will have the opportunity to interact with teachers on staff and visit classrooms taught by our language teachers. This will give you a truly authentic glimpse into what your future may hold as an EFL teacher. We are also happy to include two Italian language instructional sessions in the course, as well as the option to study the language intensively after the course.

The Florence city center accredited course is operated by an independent organisation that issues its own certificate on completion of the course.

Accommodation

Student housing is comprised of single rooms in shared apartments around the city. Most options are within walking distance of the center, while others are served by public transportation (bus and tram). Amenities include wi-fi, all kitchen facilities, air-conditioning, and ample common spaces. Once you have registered for the course, we will also send you a list of independent housing options in Florence in case you’d like to book on your own or you have special requests. We are always glad to provide you with housing assistance. A single room in a shared apartment for four weeks is €700. There is a damages deposit of €150 upon check-in. This deposit will be returned to you at the end of your stay if no damage has been caused to the lodgings. All the housing is specifically reserved for our own students.

What does the tuition for the program include?

How do I pay for the course?

Via Lingua Florence requires a deposit to assure your place on the TEFL course. The balance of the fees may be paid 30 days before the course begins. You may pay by credit card, wire transfer or personal check.
What is an average program day like?
Close

Class time is generally 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a short lunch break. During the first week of the course, you will be preparing to teach by learning all of the things you need to know in order to be successful in the classroom. For the other weeks, you will be learning in the classroom in addition to teaching and preparing materials. Sessions cover pedagogy, language awareness, classroom management, teaching techniques, cross-cultural awareness, and global life skills.

Class size ranges from 6 to 10 students. The average class is 8. Students are from around the world and non-native speakers are welcome with proof of English proficiency.
What are the teaching practice and students like?

Since the training center is a fully functional English language school, we collaborate with our own students at the language center, as well as those coming from local volunteer organizations. Our TEFL “Community” community participate gladly and enthusiastically; and they represent a genuine cross-section of of motivated language learners across all levels.

What is the TEFL job market in Italy like?

The market in Italy is quite strong at the moment, and the demand for all types of English language instruction is huge. Italians enroll in private language schools to get ahead and therefore these schools are hiring throughout the year. Language schools and associations enroll students throughout the year and therefore the hiring season is flexible and on-going. Other strong opportunities exist in the Business English market and Young Learners. Finally, many students teach online and privately. We do advise completing the program before beginning to apply for jobs. Via Lingua Florence offers sessions on job guidance where you will write a TEFL CV, a cover letter and go through questions you will be asked when interviewing.

What’s the climate like?
Close

Florence lies in a valley, surrounded by hills. Winters tend to be chilly, not cold, and summers hot. Florence has seasons, each of which offers its own special qualities. Good walking shoes are recommended as Florence is very walkable with small sidewalks and characteristic cobbled streets.
