Colombia's capital Bogotá is a very special city. Located in the heart of the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 2,640 meters, it is one of the highest capital cities in the world and is home to people from every corner of Colombia. Bogotá serves as the vibrant centre of a variety of Colombian cultures as well as those of other South American countries.

You will always find something exciting to do in Bogotá, whether it’s enjoying the local culture in the cobbled streets of the historic downtown of La Candelaria, or heading out to the areas around the city to experience the country’s beautiful views and diverse flora and fauna. The city has restaurants, clubs, cafes and bars dotted amongst old houses, churches and convents dating back 300 hundred years. Bogotá also has numerous parks which play host to a variety of events such as concerts, plays, film showings and much more.

La Candelaria itself is home to several attractions you’ll not want to miss including Calle del Embudo; a cobblestoned street lined with brightly colored buildings decorated in street art or graffiti. Calle del Embudo leads to Plaza del Chorro de Quevedo where it is thought Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada founded the city in 1538. Other attractions in La Candelaria include the Botero Museum, Colón Theater and Gold Museum. Zona Rosa is the nightlife centre of Bogotá where you will find a number of nightclubs as well as pubs serving craft beer and upscale restaurants. It is the most tourist-centered part of the city with plenty to see and do for international travelers.

Bogotá is home to a thriving expat and ESL community. There are many events for expats (Gringo Tuesday), and English speakers (Dame Tú Lengua), or people trying to learn English going on regularly. These events are good places to find long lasting friendships to accompany you for all future endeavors here in beautiful Bogotá, Colombia!

  • What is a normal day like for a TEFL candidate?

    Expand

Class time generally runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will have a one-hour lunch break, and two shorter breaks: mid-morning and afternoon. • What is the TEFL job market in Colombia like? Will I have trouble getting a job?

    Expand

Upon completion of your course, or even slightly beforehand we would recommend you begin your application processes with as many employers as you like. If you are on a tourist visa, you will have 90 days in the country before needing to leave, so beginning the process early will be to your benefit.

For the most part, both options are either Monday through Friday, or Monday through Saturday.

  • Can I return to my own country and teach with my certificate?

    Expand
