This & These
= used for something that is nearby in distance or time
This is used for singular nouns and these for plurlal nouns, for example:
- This (the one I’m reading now, or the one I’m pointing at) is my favorite book.
- These (over here) are the best I’ve seen all day.
That & Those
= used for something that is far away in distance or time
That is used for singular nouns and those for plurlal nouns, for example:
- That child over there looks lost.
- Those seagulls there at the beach look terrifying.
