Just like the superlative, knowing how to form correct comparisons is very important in English. Let's take a look at how comparison works in the English language.
One Syllable Adjectives
- add ‘-er‘ to end of the adjective.
For example:
- cheap – cheaper
- hot – hotter
- high – higher
Two-Syllable Adjectives Ending in ‘-y’
- add ‘-ier‘ to end of the adjective.
For example:
- happy – happier
- friendly – friendlier
Other two-syllable adjectives and adjectives with 3 or more syllables
- use more + the adjective.
For example:
- careful – more careful
- interesting – more interesting
