The maximum class size on the Buenos Aires course is 15, although the average is usually between 8 and 12 trainees. Most of the participants are American, British, Canadian or Australian. We also accept non-native speakers of English who have a high proficiency in the language.

  • Is there a dress code?

    Close

When you are making decisions about what clothing to bring there are a few points worth bearing in mind. TEFL/Buenos Aires classes and practice teaching sessions are conducted in a modern business and professional area of the city. People in Buenos Aires take their professional roles seriously and dress more formally than is the custom in the US. Even children going off to school are sent off by their parents neatly dressed with shoes polished and hair carefully groomed. Overly casual dress may be interpreted as a sign of indifference or lack of professionalism. In the classroom this may cost you the respect of your students. In an interview it could cost you a job. Generally speaking in Buenos Aires dress is more ‘smart’ than ‘casual’. Therefore, both at the training center and during teaching practice sessions we request that you bend to these cultural differences and respect the following guidelines.

Women: Knee length or longer skirts and tailored pants (including cropped pants and capris) are appropriate. Shirts should be modest with shoulders covered. Plunging necklines, bare midriffs, see-thru fabrics, spaghetti straps and T shirts with logos are not acceptable. Sandals are acceptable but flip flops and athletic shoes are not.

Men: Long pants, with the exception of jeans, are the norm. Shirts with collars, either long or short sleeved, are acceptable. Shirts are tucked in and generally belts are worn. Sandals and sport shoes are not worn by men in the workplace. Although ties are not required you may want to bring one. Many men wear casual sport coats so if you have ever imagined experimenting with this style of dress this is the perfect opportunity!

For both men and women a few casual clothing items will come in handy for evenings out, lounging at home and weekend excursions. Bear in mind the weather conditions during the time you are intending to be in Buenos Aires. They vary from season to season.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

    Close

Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center and you will also need it for lesson planning. We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.

Welcome lunch on the first day of classes

On the first day of classes, we will host a multicultural lunch which will start at 2.00 and finish at 3.00 PM. Please, be sure to bring something typical from your hometown to share with your classmates during this social event. You can also prepare this dish once in Argentina.

Recommended literature to read before the course starts

You would have to buy English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy before the course starts and read it.
