TEFL 120-hour Course - Unit 2

In this episode of Chantelle?s TEFL diary she takes us through her experiences with the second unit of her online TEFL course. Unit 2 of ITTT?s 120-hour TEFL course focuses on parts of speech; nouns, verbs, adjectives etc. As Chantelle points out in her video, having a basic understanding of the rules behind parts of speech is an important part of being an English teacher and is something that many native speakers of English take for granted. Although, as native speakers, we may instinctively know when and where to use the different parts of speech; understanding how to explain the rules to an English learner is a very different matter.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.

This unit included information on the materials usable in the classroom, lesson planning, and discipline within the classroom. I particularly liked the section on discipline because younger learners are more likely to have problem behavior than adults. This could be because it probably wasn?t fully their choice to take the class, as it was most likely their parents decision. There are many things to consider when managing a classroom. This unit covers the importance of eye contact, gestures, voice and overall rapport between students and the teacher. It suggests arrangements for seating, group sizes, talk time and how to handle discipline. I like how the content emphasizes for students to help each other while teachers avoid unnecessary talk time.
