Shane Zhunan has been open for 14 years, but we are currently opening a new building with extremely attractive, modern classrooms to compliment and expand upon our existing facilities and we would love to find someone interested in helping us to continue moving forward, while also developing their own TEFL skills. We have six full-time 'foreign' English teachers and hope to expand to seven by 2020.
We're a Shane English franchise cram school striving to both improve and maintain our environment of creativity, fun and modern educational practices. We firmly believe in the Shane ideals of professionalism, English immersion and learning through play and yet we are also quite unique; our school has a football pitch, a 4-storey climbing wall, a Lego classroom, a full size table-football table and in the next few years we have plans to open new attractions and facilities. We hope both our students and teachers have a chance to pursue whatever they're interested in, relax and have some fun.
We will hire the best candidate available, but we are trying to build a varied team of gender, ethnicity, nationality and culture - although we can only hire teachers eligible for a work visa (Taiwan requires foreign English teachers to be from an English speaking country). In addition, a Taiwanese teaching work permit cannot be processed without a CRB check (no older than 6 months and FBI check for US citizens). We love receiving video demos.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree (necessary for ARC)
Passport holder of English speaking country (necessary for ARC)
Full mastery of English across all 4 skills (equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of the 4 sections)
As of June 2017 Taiwan requires national police checks
All our teachers must be able to obtain work visas
Enthusiastic and passionate about education
Can understand young learners
Has classroom management skills and strategies
Has subject knowledge
Has lesson planning skills and strategies
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
CELTA/ TESOL/TEFL
Has course/activity planning skills and strategies
Adults General English (Experience 400+ hours)
Young adults aged 7-17 (Experience 400+ hours)
FURTHER DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
Has a strong interest and the ability to teach extracurricular activities such as sports, arts or drama, electronics or robotics (we have a wide variety of equipment for a variety of activities such as: unicycling, climbing and slacklining, cricket, badminton, rugby, archery and fencing and we have a football (soccer) team etc.)
PGCE/B.Ed. in Primary or Education
DELTA Certified
Can use learning technologies
Ideally, we want someone who can help us develop while looking to develop themselves.

Guaranteed 80 hours per month though we would aim to supply 100+
We offer classes between 2-8:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays, 2-9 on Fridays, 4:15-8:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays Saturday or bimonthly Saturday classes are possible on a teacher's request.
Teacher meets the Essential Requirements: $600NT/hr (approx. NT$60K per month)
Teacher meets most the Desirable Requirements: $600NT - $650NT/hr
Teacher meets most the Further Desirable Requirements: $650NT - $700+NT/hr (approx. NT$52K - NT$70K+ per month)
After 6 months performance related pay-rise.
NT$21K contract completion bonus (increases each year). NT$10K of which can be borrowed against to help cover some of the resettlement costs (such as visa fees and apartment deposit)
We are open to discussing a salary rather than hourly wage if teachers prefer, but it is not what we usually do.
Tax : In Taiwan initial tax is high, but the money is returned in a rebate (simple to process).
SUPPORT:
Onsite we have a Head of English and Taiwanese staff who will focus on helping you find an apartment that you are happy with and anything else to make your life more comfortable (e.g. arranging Chinese lessons or buying bicycles or scooters). Shane English School head office is also made up of native English speakers and Taiwanese staff who are on hand to help.
Most teachers will be expected to complete a week long training course in Taipei.
We will liaise with you before arrival to find you a one month trial in an apartment suited to you.
Free meals at the school, and free monthly staff dinner socials.
Teachers meetings are paid.
CLASSES:
Most of our students are elementary school age, however we do have a number of junior high school students and some high school and adult students. Most classes have rigid course guides (not plans) and we do have a PPP planning structure that we hope teachers can follow for most standard classes (though we don't have scripts and certainly have a lot of scope for creativity in standard classes and for teachers to come up with their own (paid) extracurricular classes and activities).
LOCATION:
Our school is in Zhunan in Miaoli County (less than 90 minutes South of Taipei (an hour possible), 15 minutes south of Hsinchu and 40 minutes North of Taichung by national rail). Zhunan is near both the beach, mountains, old temples, Miaoli's highspeed rail station and is well connected to local attractions such as Sanyi, Lion's Head Mountain and Nanzhuang. It's a great place to save money, a wonderful place for developing Chinese language skills and it has a healthy variety of food options, while Shang Shun World mall is only a 50 minute walk from the school (contains cinema, mini-theme park, international food). However, Zhunan applicants will need to be a little more self-reliant and adventurous than the average big city applicant (we recommend they are able to ride a bicycle (there are now cheap/free bicycle ports around the town) or another form of transport) if they are to enjoy their time here.
