Founded in 1959, the Santa Cruz Cooperative School (SCCS) was originally established to serve the children of the Gulf Oil Company personnel. In 1970, SCCS became the cooperative it is today. Since then, providing students with the best resources possible in material and infrastructure has been a constant goal for SCCS. As an American Overseas School (AOS), SCCS recognizes the importance of an American presence within the school. With this goal in mind, SCCS recruits experienced, licensed English-speaking teachers to create a high-quality learning environment, with occasional opportunities for TEFL qualified teachers. Over 70 percent of the teaching staff at SCCS is from the United States. SCCS staff also includes teachers from places like Argentina, Bolivia, and Canada.
