Schütz & Kanomata, (S & K), ESL is a language institute, a center of trade with the outside world and a center for multicultural living located in Santa Cruz do Sul, aimed at teaching English and Portuguese through a natural approach. Our school is located in a mid-size town in the south of Brazil with a 2-semester program designed for native level speakers of English that want to exchange ESL teaching for the opportunity of living in Brazil and learning its language and culture. The role of the teacher (moderator, assessor, etc) should be varied according to the needs of the students and the planned outcomes of the lesson. Teachers also have to take into consideration the \"genetic make-up\" of the class (for example, age group, background, native schooling culture, etc) when planning lessons to ensure sensitivity and effectiveness in building rapport with the students.In this unit module I learned the various methods in testing and evaluating students' language level. This included different types of tests and what they are meant to accomplish, in regards to the information the teacher can extract from them (placement vs progress vs specific practice). The unit also included a explanation for a number of external tests that the students may wish to study for.
