Are you looking to use your TEFL skills working in a location with opportunities for adventures? LELI was established in 2002, and having developed an excellent reputation, is now recognised as the premium English language training provider in Asia’s newest country, Timor-Leste. Our clients include a variety of government ministries and respected national institutions, prestigious international organisations, local businesses, and private individuals. Students at LELI come from a variety of backgrounds, and many have had their education disrupted due to Timor-Leste’s years of struggling for independence. The standard of education and the methodology most students have been exposed to in Timor-Leste means that some students have difficulty with modes of abstract thinking. In conjunction with building students’ English language proficiency, EFL teachers at LELI also help to develop students’ analytical and critical thinking through a range of different teaching strategies.

Qualifications:

TESOL, TEFL, CELTA or equivalent teaching certificate, plus two years’ teaching experience, or CELTA grade B or higher and one years’ experience, and completed Bachelor's Degree.

Native English speaker proficiency is a must. Ability to speak Portuguese, Indonesian or Tetun an advantage, but not essential.

Up-to-date criminal record check essential. Driving licence an advantage.

Personal Qualities:

Ability to work as part of a team, but equally capable of working individually. Enthusiastic and highly motivated. Good organizational and time management skills. Ability to work well with people from different cultural backgrounds. Patience and ability to adapt to living and working with the challenges associated with a developing country. Willingness to work evenings and Saturday mornings.

Visa Information for Timor-Leste:

All expatriate staff require a working visa. LELI applies for a working visa once the employee arrives in Timor-Leste. Teachers are reimbursed for the cost of the tourist visa upon arrival (receipts required). All costs associated with obtaining the working visa incurred in Timor are covered by LELI (receipts required). Any costs incurred outside Timor such as notarization of qualifications and the criminal background check are the employee's responsibility. Employees will need to provide originals of documents (TEFL certificate, university degree, and criminal background check) for the Timorese Department of Labour. LELI will assist in getting a medical check (including blood test) done locally, as this is also a working visa requirement.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

It was helpful to know that there are certain steps that should be taken in creating a syllabus for a Business English teaching. The necessity of the assessment test before forming a group, giving a need analysis before beginning the course and the different test based on different purposes. Course evaluation would also be inevitable for the teachers and to be a further help to the businessmen. In this unit I was learning about more practical and very useful aspects of teaching the English language to foreign students. It was all about constructing the lessons and structuring them in an effective way. There have been introduced several teaching methodologies, some very outdated some still very useful and actually helping students to have fun and successfully learn the target language.
